IBM new No. 1 in server sales
IBM Corp. overtook Hewlett-Packard in the third quarter as the world's biggest seller of server computers, Gartner Inc. said.IBM had server sales of $3.85 billion in the quarter for a 29.7 percent market share, the research company said Monday. Hewlett-Packard had 29.3 percent, followed by Dell Inc. with 14.7 percent.
In 2010's third quarter, Hewlett-Packard held 32 percent, compared with IBM's 30.2 percent.
Total server revenue rose 5.2 percent from a year earlier to $12.97 billion, according to Gartner.
